You can safely check what you’ve got. Pull back insulation at two or three spots - near a bathroom vent, at the attic hatch, and at the eaves - and look for intact poly, intact kraft facing, or nothing at all. Take photos. If you see black stain, wet spots, or poly that shatters when you flex it, you’ve got a problem.
